EDITORIAL

Truth in lending

There can be no justification for loans that violate the principle of transparency in pricing. »

Impromptu
As rightly underlined, it is not simply a question of win-win situation for all or otherwise, but is one relative to the lately much tom-tom-med ideal concepts of , transparency and accountability. Tragically, the more has been the talk the less has been the desired outcome; no gainsaying that almost been in inverse proportion.

The customers or consumers broadly belong to any of the three broad classifications, literate or semi-literate or illiterate. Regardless, in the ultimate analysis, what really weighs or acts as the motivating factor is the individual mindset- to be precise, the significance attached to either or both the mentioned ideals. Such ideals invariably are pushed to back seat, by reason of overwhelming human nature to give priority to personal gains, as opposed to societal welfare. The dominant trait coming into play in a big way is so called ‘ego’ in its varying kinds.

On the aspect of irregular practices in vogue, notably in the banking industry, for quite long, with virtually no check or control, for an enumeration, the ten fingers nature hath bestowed to humans could only be counted as inadequate. It is high time that the RBI minds to take a serious note of and come out with effective steps to control and curb, objectively.

Incidentally, it should greatly help if the office of banking ombudsman is given a set of norms and principles, in the form of mandates, to compulsorily follow , to the end of faithfully accomplishing the objectives spoken of.

Apex court ruling clears air on VAT
Builders will now have to remit the levy on all under-construction units sold in 2006-10 »

The narrations of the recent development by the players in the print media, as is the common regret aired by the hapless readers, is that those are  mutually confusing and contradicting; so much so, none is wiser as to what really is in store for the stakeholders/victims, particularly the buyers.
The point of poser for a serious consideration is this: Is it not eminently desirable or of the utmost importance that reporting on such matters of law  is entrusted only to personnel , even though not experts-in-law, who have the requisite background or qualification so as to get a reasonably good grasp/grip of the subject.
On the readers’ expectation as given vent elsewhere: The penetrating sarcasm underlying the readers' comments brings to surface a very worry some reality of life- to put it in the form of a common man's grave doubt, - WHO IS AN 'EXPERT' , especially in 'law', ,in its profound sense- knowing full well that law, as rightly dubbed, is an ass? Even so, If ready with an answer, better also let know HIS Id, AND where to find THE ONE ?
