Deaf or Blind - Whom to Choose ?!

COMMENTS:
One cannot but is obliged to keep wondering whether, at the end of the day, any such write-up from any learned columnist or comments from any equally learned reader meet with any fruitful outcome, as expected, from the point of view of either or both the tax gatherer and the taxpaying community?
As is reasonably to be expected, those who are, or consider themselves to be, truly concerned are sure to have already done some home work after having waded through the whole lot of statistical data the FM himself has already obliged the Nation with.
If so, the point to ponder is ,- should not such write-ups, in order to be profoundly useful to the readers, be devoted more to such aspects which go to enlighten them so as to prove to be of any use from a practical point of view ? In other words, the poser is this: - Should not the starting point be the premise that, in regard to any such or like proposal (as picked up and dealt with by the writer), any write-up or comment is extremely unlikely to weigh with but the government is, for reasons one could reasonably guess, almost certain to go its own way; despite any criticism or constructive suggestion offered, however genuine it happens to be.

Levy of 'service tax' - Is it at all 'justified' ; even if 'yes', to what extent?

http://in.news.yahoo.com/bill-introduced-budget-session-20110219-063200-893.html

The news @ the above link, one finds, gives rise to several discomforting doubts - wprt the subject of 'service tax' - a hotly debated one at the 'entry' as also 'experts' level -ALIKE!

Look up the UN Charter of Human Rights @ 1.   The Universal Declaration of Human Rights

IT IS RECOMMENDED - TO CLOSELY READ AND UNDERSTAND WHAT THAT, IN PARTICULAR, ARTICLE 21 says - to the end of realizing as to why our nation's own basic Charter should, in all humility, be accorded due respect it deserves; also strictly be abided / followed both in letter and spirit  - especially by each one of the  3 'machineries' set up and in place - Legislaure, Executive and Judiciary.

KEY POSER: Should the 'right to service', more so the 'right to public service',  is a constititution -guranteed 'fundamental right', hence to be honored and reached by the government  to the people even in the normal course,  why a levy of -service tax is at all legitimate and legally valid ?

Of course, the validity and legality of any such levy 'retrospectively /'retro- actively' (e.g. the recently legislated levy on 'construction' made applicable even to agreements concluded before the cut-off date) is all the more questionable /contestable, with the dispute founded on its own strong grounds.

Unreal estate- jug suraiya TOI Issue of 3-3-'11

Indeed a commendable write-up; so thought provoking that the readers have chosen to, through a variety of comments, give vent to their individual pent-up feelings and remorse. But sadly, they all seem to have, unwittingly or otherwise, omitted to even whisper against one very important and highly objectionable thing-namely, ‘private swimming pools’ in vogue. As is the hard fact, ‘water’ -the most essential commodity, the nature given one at that, is increasingly in short supply/becoming scarce. As is being trumpeted off and on, the day is not far off when it might become nearly extinct. I so, is it not a matter, which should be of ‘common concern’ to one and all. Not long before, one read about a ‘private swimming pool’ constructed on the common terrace of an apartment building; allegedly with the local authority’s so - dubbed‘approval /sanction’; lately revealed but acknowledged to be ‘illegal’. The mind-boggling and brain-teasing point to ponder is –where are we really heading to?!
