The situation is grave but hardly hopeless
<> The message sought to be conveyed viz. "The situation is grave but hardly hopeless" makes one to impulsively recall a memorable quote by a legal luminary in another context, but seemingly fitting in/ fairly close to that of, - Marshal Foch when he sent the historic despatch from the battle-field in the First World War: "My left wing is retreating. My soft centre is crumbling. The situation is excellent. I attack!" "

SEBI v Trib ?
The Securities Appellate Tribunal (“SAT”) has now held that front running is indeed a fraudulent and manipulative act in violation of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Prohibition of Fraudulent and Unfair Trade Practices Relating to Securities Market) Regulations, 2003 (“PFUTP Regulations”). It has departed from its earlier decisions in case of Dipak Patel (discussed here) and Sujit Karkera (discussed here). It thus upheld SEBI’s Order (discussed here) levying a penalty of Rs. 25 lakhs on profits made on account of such front running of Rs. 7,15,854.

'Thank God, the Reserve Bank of India exists'
<> Craving indulgence for one sharing own casual thoughts:
"Thank God, the Reserve Bank Exists”?! > The people,- inclusive of Dr. SR, or those other supermen supposed to be in "governance", have to thank themselves, at least on such moments of casually conceded 'crisis'- in the economic front; besides invoking the invariably invisible "GOD", all "for saving the 'RBI' ", for the nonce, if not for ever. Wishfully thinking, however, relying on hope on hopes, but subject to every doubt, apart from "the people", - is GOD at all free for sparing even a moment for anxiety or real concern over such matters profoundly but graphically fit to be categorized as 'mundane', having its genesis in the so called ungodly "GREED" in his most favored creation of all.
Evading wealth tax is a criminal offence
No Doubt; that is what the law, just as any other-man-made ordains ! But is it not equally an 'offense'- a criminal one, of no less gravity,if taxpayer is not obliged by concerned AO (to refund as ordained by law),being a 'public servant', in cases such as because of an excess payment (for reasons such as. over enthusiasm, but mistakenly) tax payer is due a refund but withheld/delayed , deliberately or otherwise. Can any rule of law allowed to be/remain cock-eyed,or a one-way traffic, as has always been commonly experienced to be the case / unchangeable practice?! < May edit, if so mind, in case of difficulty to understand the underlying message

Nani Palkhivala
Xcerpt,2. I did not have the privilege of meeting or interacting with late Shri Palkhivala. He was already a preeminent public intellectual in the country by the time I had entered the IAS in the early 1970s. But I count myself among the millions of educated Indians who were deeply impressed by Shri Palkhivala’s commitment to protecting India’s democratic institutions, and the intellectual vigour with which he did so. In a career spanning over six decades, he distinguished himself as a brilliant lawyer, a perceptive political scientist, an intelligent communicator and an erudite diplomat, leaving behind a legacy that continues to influence our public discourse in several areas.>

II. Mayaram calls the rupee fall irrational sentiment
But the currency continued to depreciate due to a rise in oil prices on concerns of a possible military attack by US and its allies against Syria.
Hindu Business Line - 20 hours ago
The Finance Ministry has described the sharp fall in the value of the rupee as a reflection of “irrational sentiment” and said there is no need to ...
To Panic or Not; a crores' rupee question, followed by contradicting and mutually confusing views, not necessarily well-considered hence left bewildered to the core. Be that as it may, none is sure to decide or apprise what credence to attach to the Hon'ble Top Bureaucrat's sentiment, with a touch of optimism, ridiculing others' honest sentiment as irrational.
"Sentiment" -as a concept, as sanely and conventionally understood, is always a sentiment, -never has anything to do with rational or logical thinking/reasoning. If "yes", the bureaucrat, speaking so forcefully as the spokes person of the men in governance (avoiding calling it - government, for obvious reasons/easy to guess) owes it to the "people" as to what the term "irrational sentiment" was intended to convey, if at all any ? "... But the currency continued to depreciate due to a rise in oil prices on concerns of a possible military attack by US and its allies against Syria..."- Yet another new-found explanation; can the person who has offered/ invented, or any of the economic experts, from a long/ever extending list of them, honestly see and satisfactorily explain the thinking, if any, behind-is there even an iota of truth; a "rational" one at that ?????!!!!!

Govt probes cash deals, KYC violations in NSEL |
Working group looking into violations by exchange, participants
xcerpts>
<Though the spot market in which NSEL operated came under the purview of state government departments and agricultural produce marketing committees, these entities didn’t focus on ensuring KYC compliance, matching PAN, etc.>
<Agencies such as Sebi have mandates intermediaries to report cash transaction reports and suspicious transaction reports to Financial Intelligence Unit–India, which collates and processes the data. “The idea of KYC norms is to ensure the genuineness of the person doing the transaction. It will work only when the agency collecting the information also has regulatory control over the entity,” said a former Sebi official.>
