The delay in government’s reported clarification, days after the wrong news appeared in the Press, is rather intriguing. Any vital announcement, such as of a proposed amnesty scheme, even if it be authentic, has, according to experts, an added demoralising effect on the so called tax evaders/dodgers; and in turn, on the national economy as a whole. That being so, any such adverse consequence, likely to be caused even in the interim, could have been avoided or at least obviated, should the concerned authority have been alert enough to keep a constant vigil on, so as to be the first (in any case, not the last) one to come to know of and dutifully scotch, any such rumours floated by the ‘professional vested interests’.
